India, World Bank looking to spur lending for electric vehicles

Government of India and the World Bank are in talks to introduce a risk-sharing mechanism to compensate banks giving loans for electric vehicle purchases, an official said, as the country seeks to decarbonize the transport sector. The risk instrument will help banks hedge against loan defaults and cut the cost of financing EVs.

Delhi government to install over 5000 kerbside EV chargers on all major roads

Delhi government launches open database for EV charging

Delhi government has launched an Open Database Facility for electric vehicle (EV) charging and battery swapping stations on its Switch Delhi portal for electric vehicles in Delhi. This will enable people to now use their favourite apps to locate more than 2500 charging points and battery swapping stations across Delhi. This number is expected to reach 18,000 by 2025.

Odisha government to hire electric vehicle for official use

In a move to protect the environment from air pollution, the Odisha government has initiated steps to hire electric vehicles for its use in different government offices. The transport department has been asked to fix the prices considering all the relevant parameters like cost of different categories of vehicles that have come to market, maximum ceiling for monthly running of EVs, battery replacement, charging cost and other costs if any.

EV financiers launch association, EMFAI, to expedite electric vehicle adoption

The non-governmental Electric Mobility Financiers Association of India aims to ensure faster EV adoption in the country by focusing on the financing of EVs and other products and services relevant to the ecosystem. The mission of the association is to enable fast adoption of electric mobility, shape policies and guidelines, and mitigate risks associated with electric mobility, Revfin Services Private Limited, a digital consumer lending platform that provides loans for electric vehicles.

Government announces new battery safety norms for electric vehicles from October 1

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has introduced a set of new safety norms with concerns about the reported cases of battery fires, which were observed in multiple electric two-wheelers in the recent past. The amendments include stringent constraints for the design of battery packs, onboard chargers, and thermal propagation due to internal cell short-circuiting that leads to fire.

Additional safety requirements recommended in the existing battery safety standards with effect from 1st October 2022

Based on the recommendations of the expert committee report, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway has issued amendment 2 to AIS 156- Specific requirements for motor vehicles of L category [motor vehicles with less than four wheels and is a quadricycle] with electric power train, and amendment 2 to AIS 038 Rev. 2 - Specific requirements for Electric Power Train of motor vehicles of M category [motor vehicle with at least four wheels used for carrying passengers] and N category [motor vehicle with at least four wheels used for carrying goods which may also carry persons in addition to the goods]. These amendments include additional safety requirements related to battery cells, BMS, on-board charger, design of battery pack, thermal propagation due to internal cell short circuit leading to fire etc.

Rajasthan government comes up with EV policy; sanctions Rs 40 crore for EV purchase grant

The Rajasthan government has come up with an electric vehicle policy to encourage the purchase of electric vehicles in the state. Under the Rajasthan Electric Vehicle Policy (REVP), the state government has sanctioned a fund of Rs 40 crore for contribution on the purchase of electric vehicles.
