Hero Electric to set up Rs 1200 crore electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Rajasthan

Two-wheeler maker Hero Electric will set up a mega electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant with an investment of Rs 1200 crore in Rajasthan. The proposed unit will be located in Salarpur industrial region in the Alwar district. The production is expected to start by the end of 2023.

Volvo Car India aims to sell 1,000 EVs in 2023

Volvo Cars is aiming to sell 900-1000 luxury electric vehicles in 2023, as demand for zero-emission vehicles increases in India. Globally, Volvo is aiming to be fully electric by 2030, and has plans to make EVs to account for at least half its sales volume by 2025. Malhotra, however, set a steeper target for its India business: 80% of sales from EVs by 2025.

Air India, AirAsia India and Vistara sign MoU with CSIR-IIP

Air India, AirAsia India and Vistara (Tata SIA Airlines) and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Indian Institute of Petroleum to collaborate and work together on the research, development and deployment of sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs). The focus of the MoU is the exploration of Single Reactor HEFA Technology for Drop-in liquid Sustainable Aviation and Automotive Fuel (DILSAAF).

India, World Bank looking to spur lending for electric vehicles

Government of India and the World Bank are in talks to introduce a risk-sharing mechanism to compensate banks giving loans for electric vehicle purchases, an official said, as the country seeks to decarbonize the transport sector. The risk instrument will help banks hedge against loan defaults and cut the cost of financing EVs.

Chandigarh to phase out fuel-based vehicles

Declaring itself a model electric vehicles (EV) city, the Chandigarh administration, while notifying the EV policy, stated that within two years from now, they will entirely stop the registrations of petrol-based two wheelers. The administration havs approved the policy to make UT a ‘Model EV City’ with highest zero emission vehicles (ZEV) among Indian cities, in five years. The policy comes into force with immediate effect.

The Delhi government is working to set up over 5000 kerbside EV charging points on all major roads in the coming 3 years. Kerbside charging is an emerging concept globally in which electric vehicles can be charged while being parked on roadside kerbs with charging stations or either using streetlight lamp posts.

Delhi government launches open database for EV charging

Delhi government has launched an Open Database Facility for electric vehicle (EV) charging and battery swapping stations on its Switch Delhi portal for electric vehicles in Delhi. This will enable people to now use their favourite apps to locate more than 2500 charging points and battery swapping stations across Delhi. This number is expected to reach 18,000 by 2025.
