Green mobility: Bhubaneswar smart city to ply 50 electric buses soon

In an effort to reduce pollution, electric buses will ply on the roads of the smart city from the end of July 2022. Ten such buses are currently on a trial run. The Capital Region Urban Transport (Crut), that runs the Mo Bus services, said that within six months 50 electric buses will be added to the current fleet of 255 conventional (diesel) buses running in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack with a daily shuttle to pilgrim to Puri.
Chhattisgarh government approves electric vehicle policy to encourage adoption of EVs

Under the Chhattisgarh State Electric Vehicle Policy-2022, the government will establish a vast network of charging stations and swappable battery stations in government and private buildings. The government has set a target of five years and aims to have 15% of new registrations of vehicles, either under individual use or commercial use as EVs till 2027.
Delhi government launches WhatsApp Chatbot to answer queries on electric vehicles

EV sector witnesses 108% average employee growth, says survey

With the Indian electric vehicle (EV) industry shifting gears to the fast lane, there has been a significant growth in employment in the sector. The average growth in employee numbers stands at 108%, over the last two years. Staffing and recruitment agency CIEL HR Services found in its latest survey that in the short term, for one year and six months, the growth was at 35% and 13%, respectively. It also said there has been accelerated advancement of women into leadership positions. Bengaluru leads in EV talent, with 62% of job postings in this region, followed by 12% in Delhi, 9% in Pune, 6% in Coimbatore and 3% in Chennai.
Over 25k EVs sold in city in 6 months, more than in entire 2021

Delhi is poised to reach a major milestone in its journey towards becoming the country’s electric vehicle (EV) capital. The first six months of 2022 has seen a total 25,890 EVs being sold in the city, higher than the total number sold in any single year since 2018. EVs accounted for 9.3% of all vehicles registered in the national capital this year till June 30, up from 5.6% recorded in the whole of 2021. There were 25,814 EVs registered last year while the number was 23,222 in 2019 and 20,973 in 2018. In 2020, only 12,381 EVs were registered amid an overall dip in vehicle sales due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
NITI Aayog and TIFAC launch report on future penetration of electric two-wheelers in the Indian market

Using a tool made by NITI Aayog and TIFAC, eight scenarios have been developed for analyzing the future penetration of electric two-wheelers in the country. In an optimistic scenario, the report forecasts 100% penetration of electric two-wheelers in the Indian market by FY 2026–27. In another scenario, which is technology driven and where current incentives are withdrawn by 2024, the report predicts 72% penetration by 2031.
Centre to install 5,000 EV charging points in central Delhi

n a major push for e-mobility, the Central government, in association with a private firm, is going to install 5,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points in central Delhi. These charging points will spread across 2,000 charging stations. The National Highways for Electric Vehicles (NHEV) in association with Joulepoint, is going to develop these charging points in the central Delhi area with an aim of not just promoting EVs as personal vehicles but also as taxis.
Haryana Cabinet approves state electric vehicle policy

The policy encourages new manufacturing in the EV technology and also encourages the existing automobile manufacturers to diversify in the EV manufacturing domain. There is 100 per cent reimbursement of stamp duty along with exemption in Electricity Duty for a period of 20 years. The state GST (SGST) reimbursement shall be 50 per cent of the applicable Net SGST for a period of 10 years.
BIS formulates performance standards for Electric Vehicle Batteries

Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS), National Standard Body of India, has published standards for Test Specifications for Lithium-ion Traction Battery Packs and Systems (Performance Testing) for Electrically Propelled Road Vehicles. The standard IS 17855: 2022 for these battery packs and systems is harmonized with ISO 12405-4: 2018.
Telangana receives the state’s first Plug-and-play EV Park

The state’s first plug-and-play EV Park and Two and Three-Wheeler Electric vehicles, produced by Vayu Motors and Zero 21, was launched recently. The EV Park has an incubation centre for EV startups that can leverage MG’s manufacturing capabilities and infrastructure.
