E-launch of GIZ's Report-3 on EV Charging Infrastructure and its Grid Integration

  • Event Cordinator : GIZ India and IIT Bombay
  • Venue : Online
  • Event date : July 28, 2022

GIZ along with IIT Bombay organized the e-launch of the third report “Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure and its Grid Integration in India: Status Quo, Critical Analysis and Way Forward” developed under the study “Integration of Electric Vehicles Charging Infrastructure with Distribution Grid: Global Review, India’s Gap Analyses and Way Forward”. A consortium led by IIT Bombay along with Florence School of Regulation (FSR), Technical University Denmark (DTU), Cardiff University and Universidad Pontificia Comillas has undertaken this study. This study has been carried out under the purview of GIZ’s Nationally Determined Contribution-Transport Initiative for Asia (NDC-TIA) project, in close collaboration and under the guidance of NITI Aayog.

This specific report, the third in the series of four reports of this study, is focused on a detailed analysis and documentation of EV charging infrastructure and its grid integration in Indian EV ecosystem, covering the current status analysis of various aspects, including EV charging technology, standards and protocols applicable in India, grid integration status of EVs, stakeholders in Indian EV ecosystem, policy and regulatory matters related to EV charging infrastructure (both at central and state level).

E-launch of GIZ's Report-1 & Report-2 on EV Charging Infrastructure and its Grid Integration

  • Event Cordinator : GIZ and IIT Bombay
  • Venue : Online
  • Event date : August 04, 2021

GIZ along with IIT Bombay organized the e-launch of the first two reports from the project “Integration of Electric Vehicles Charging Infrastructure with Distribution Grid: Global Review, India’s Gap Analyses and Way Forward”.

The two distinct reports released are as given below:

Report 1 - Fundamentals of Electric Vehicle Charging Technology and its Grid Integration

Report 2 - International Review on Integration of Electric Vehicles charging infrastructure with distribution grid

While the focus of the first report is on understanding the concepts behind the electric vehicle charging technology along with its effective integration into the electricity grid, the second report documents the study analysis of international experience on EV charging infrastructure developments, grid integration of EVs, policy and regulatory review, various case studies, demonstrations and commercial implementation of EV charging technology and grid integration.

E-launch event for two reports developed under the Nationally Determined Contribution-Transport Initiative for Asia (NDC-TIA) India component

  • Event Cordinator : Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH India, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP and Agora Verkehrswende
  • Venue : Online
  • Event date : May 13, 2022

The virtual (Microsoft Teams-Meeting) event was a two-part session. Session I focused on Battery Ecosystem: A Global Overview, Gap Analysis in Indian Context, and Way forward for ecosystem Development. Session II focused on the International Review of recycling ecosystem of traction/Electric Vehicle batteries. The brief details of the reports are as follows:

Report 1: Battery Ecosystem: A Global Overview, Gap Analysis in Indian Context, and Way forward for Ecosystem Development

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP have jointly conducted a comprehensive study “Battery Ecosystem: A Global Overview, Gap Analysis in Indian context, and Way Forward for Ecosystem Development” which aims to investigate the complete value chain of motive/traction batteries used in the electric vehicle applications. The report documents the current state of traction battery technology, manufacturing, battery standards, policy and regulation, recycling, reuse, and battery swapping technology in India and globally.

Report 2: International review on Recycling Ecosystem of Electric Vehicle Batteries

The report focuses on the policy and regulations currently in place for battery recycling in the countries/regions namely, EU/Germany, China, California (United States), Japan and South Africa.
