Abstract:
Recent innovative designs of HEVs/EVs have increased popularity and decreased the cost. Consequently, a lot of research in the academic arena and industrial sector has been focused on the analysis, design, and optimization of HEVs. There are many configurations of HEVs. Therefore, the selection of the most suitable configuration requires in-depth analysis in the context of driving conditions and the dynamic performance of electric motor drives. Driving conditions encapsulates road infrastructure quality, the pattern of traffic flow, road gradients and average driver expertise, etc. These conditions are very difficult to consider by exact mathematical equations. Therefore, this thesis is centered on the determination of the best suitable candidate configuration for HEV. A figure of merit has been determined considering driving conditions, types of motor, mechanical parameters of the vehicle, emissions, and fuel efficiency.
