Post COVID Support Required to Electric Vehicles: FICCI Recommendations to Government

As demand and investments in the Electric Vehicles (EVs) sector are severely hit due to disruptions caused by COVID-19, FICCI has suggested to the Government, a series of measures to ensure continuity of the EV growth roadmap and achievement of the targets as envisioned by the Government for the sector in the next decade. These suggestions have been submitted to NITI Aayog, Department of Heavy Industry, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and other relevant authorities in the Government.

Recharging India’s Electric Vehicle Ambition by Electrifying Public Transport

Rapid urbanisation stimulates mobility needs and augments travel demand, creating a surge in the demand for vehicles. Rising number of vehicles impacts air quality and increases the country’s dependence on crude oil leading to higher import bills.
Ola Mobility Institute (OMI) studied India’s first multimodal electric mobility project in Nagpur through a pilot in May 2017. The pilot focused primarily on ensuring usage of EVs - or simply put, clean kilometres travelled – to test the viability of EVs on economic metrics. The study found that the pilot required a broad set of actions. This report takes into account data points from all aspects of EV operations spread over 18 months of the Nagpur pilot providing a detailed overview of the study.
