Delhi Electric Vehicles Policy 2026

Abstract:

The Government of Delhi's new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy came into effect on 1 July 2026 and will remain operational until 31 March 2030. The policy represents a significant policy intervention aimed at mitigating vehicular emissions and expediting the transition towards sustainable electric mobility.

Over the four-year implementation period, the Government has committed an investment of ₹7,000 crore to support the policy's objectives. In parallel, residents of Delhi are projected to receive benefits amounting to approximately ₹15,000 crore through a combination of financial incentives, tax exemptions, and the expansion of EV charging and supporting infrastructure.

The policy is designed to enhance the affordability and accessibility of electric mobility through a phased implementation strategy without predetermined caps on adoption. Its framework is structured to provide demand-driven support, whereby increasing rates of EV adoption are matched by corresponding government incentives and investments. By promoting widespread adoption of electric vehicles, the policy seeks to contribute to improved urban air quality, reduced dependence on fossil fuels, and the development of a cleaner, more sustainable, and future-ready transportation ecosystem in Delhi.
