Evaluation and Ranking of Battery Electric Vehicles by Shannon’s Entropy and TOPSIS Methods

Publication Year: 2023

Author(s): Dwivedi P P, Sharma D K

Abstract:

In today’s culture, everyone requires transportation. Polluting vehicles like those that run on gasoline or diesel are being swiftly replaced with all-electric cars. Fully electric vehicles are much more environmentally beneficial because they emit no exhaust. The market for electric vehicles has expanded quickly in recent years, making it difficult for consumers to evaluate them and a major source of concern. The primary responsibility in this study is to rank the fifteen different brands and types of electric automobiles that are now available for purchase globally based on the established criteria. This study evaluates fifteen different electric vehicles, according to their different ten criteria such as full charge time, purchasing price, quick charge time, maximum power, electric range, battery capacity, top speed, cargo volume, acceleration, and unladen weight. The electric car dataset for this study's assessment was acquired from automakers. The authors employ two techniques to assess electric vehicles. The first method, Shannon’s entropy, is used to determine the electric car’s criterion weight, while the second method, TOPSIS, is used to rank electric vehicles. The results of the study show that electric cars' short charging times, maximum power outputs, electric ranges, battery capacities, top speeds, and starting prices increased in popularity. The validity of the research is based on an assessment of electric vehicles.
