Investigations on soft switching Bi directional DC DC converters for electric vehicle applications

Publication Year: 2021

Author(s): Tomar, Pavan Singh

Abstract:

This thesis proposes a soft switch naturally clamp isolated current fed bidirectional dc-dc converter (ICFBD2C) for EV application. The merits of proposed converter includes limited initial current, wide range of soft switching operation and naturally voltage clamping across the switches. A 350 W, 145 kHz operated converter is simulated in detail using MATLAB/SIMULINK and the same has been fabricated. The performance is further validated for a wide charging voltage variation through adopting a re-configurable battery system. The simulation and hardware results validates the performance and are found in agreement. In addition to ICFBD2C, a voltage fed single input multi-output (SIMO) converter with an advance modified pulse scheme (MPS) is proposed. The proposed converter is able to efficiently charge two differently rated batteries. The proposed MPS is capable for simultaneous charging as well as individual charging. In order to verify the operation, a 500 W, 100 kHz laboratory prototype is built and the results are elucidated.
