Abstract:
The developments of technologies related to Renewable Energy Sources, together with the advancements in the e-mobility sector, have led to the need for a paradigm shift toward a new smart grid scenario. The increasing penetration of Electric Vehicles (EVs) poses a challenge to the secure operation of distribution grids, with an increasing total EV demand, challenging to forecast. The objective of this paper is to propose an approach to assess the EV integration, checking for local constraints, but also assessing the benefits obtained with the adoption of more advanced control schemes. A model for assessing the base load scenario and the EV demand is developed. The proposed methodology is used to evaluate the EV integration on an urban medium voltage grid in Skopje, Macedonia. Three different control strategies are considered, having their performance evaluated with respect to the uncontrolled charging scenario.
