Research Progress on Efficient Thermal Management System for Electric Vehicle Batteries Based on Two-Phase Transformation

Publication Year: 2023

Author(s): Li R, Gan Y, Luo Q, Yan Y, Li Y

Abstract:

The rapid growth of the electric vehicle market presents challenges in battery heat production and performance due to increased range and fast charging. Battery thermal management systems (BTMS) must provide higher heat transfer efficiency to improve current vehicles. Two-phase transformation, which involves absorption and release of latent heat, is considered an effective approach to upgrading BTMS. This review classifies existing thermal management concepts for EVs based on phase change technology and reviews their development. It analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of these technologies, highlights opportunities and challenges, and provides recommendations for future research to advance the commercialization of EV phase change technology.
