Maritime Climate Mitigation Options - Technologies and Fuels
Publication Year: 2023

Abstract:
Almost all global trade is done by shipping, which accounts for two to three percent of global GHG emissions. International and European ambitions and regulations aim to minimize these negative impacts and usher in a net-zero future. But are regulations sufficient to advance climate neutrality in maritime transport? What will it take to transition from heavy oils and fossil fuel marine diesel to more climate-friendly alternatives? What role do PtX fuels play in this? And can so-called green shipping corridors bring a sustainable market ecosystem into being?
International PtX Hub, PtX Lab Lausitz and Agora Verkehrswende - wanted to get to the bottom of these and other questions in the three-part webinar series "PtX Lab Talk+ Technologies, policies and fuels for fossil-free maritime transport". The goal was to present technical and regulatory fundamentals, convey European and international viewpoints, and identify possible solutions.
