Abstract:
The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme launched in the 2015, kick-started the adoption of electric vehicles in India by providing financial incentives for Electric Vehicle (EV) purchase, charging infrastructure deployment and Research and Development (R&D) of electric vehicles. With an objective to maximise passenger-kms of travel electrified, the scheme prioritises electrification of public transport vehicles which cater to the majority of passenger demand in Indian cities. Approx. 35% and 25% of the total incentive amount allocated towards electric bus (e-bus) and electric three-wheelers incentives respectively. With this increased emphasis on electrification of public transport (e-buses), it is important to plan for the subsidies and deployment efforts. This report is prepared towards creating enabling mechanism to scale up adoption of e-buses in Indian cities.
