A Pilot Project on Solar-Energy-Based Electric Vehicle Charging
Publication Year: 2021

Abstract:
Electric vehicles (EVs) are being aggressively pursued by many countries across the world as one of the solutions to address climate change. Owing to their zero tailpipe emissions, they are expected to counter the harmful effects of emissions from fossil-fuel-based vehicles. However, it is important to note that EVs are sustainable in the long run only if they run on an eco-friendly form of energy. The Indian grid is predominantly based on coal as the primary energy source as a result of which EVs, upon drawing energy from the grid, will add to a net increase in the overall CO2 emissions. Hence, replacing coal with cleaner energy sources such as renewables is the way to go. Solar Rooftop Photovoltaic (SRTPV) is a popular technology to source clean energy and can be easily scaled within cities.
