Abstract:
Most appliances and machines today operate on AC power. If AC power is unavailable for a brief period of time, DC power must be converted into AC power and supplied during that time. With the help of an inverter, this is possible. Inverters may be multiphase, such as 3phase, 5phase, 6phase, etc. Given the widespread use of inverters in industries and HVDC transmission lines, the enhancement of output voltage and reduction of harmonics are of the utmost importance. The research work presents a comprehensive analysis of harmonics and THD in a five phase inverter with varying conduction angles, along with the derived mathematical equations. A comparative analysis of three-phase and five-phase inverters with varying angles of conduction has been presented. A comparison of the power handling capacity, harmonics, losses, and cost of three phase, five-phase, and seven phase inverters, which are the primary selection criteria for hybrid electric vehicle inverters. The performance of multiphase inverters with varying conduction angles is compared to determine the optimal inverter for hybrid electric vehicle applications.
