Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Quality Survey for India: Part 2
Publication Year: 2021
Author(s): Sathiamoorthy B, Bandivadekar A
Abstract:
In December 2019, the ICCT began a two-part survey of motor gasoline and diesel fuel in India, with phase I taking place between December 2019 and January 2020. The first section examined samples obtained in December 2019 and January 2020, when most of the country was still under the Bharat Stage (BS) IV criteria. This is the second part of ICCT’s comprehensive survey of motor gasoline and automotive diesel fuel quality across India. Samples for phase II were drawn between July and November 2020. Here the authors detail analysis of samples drawn between July and November 2020, after the implementation of BS VI vehicle emission standards and associated fuel specifications. All samples analyzed in phase II complied with the more stringent limit of 10 parts per million sulfur in BS VI standards. The major difference from BS IV to BS VI is the sulfur content limit, which is reduced to 10 parts per million (ppm) from 50 ppm.
