Abstract:
An intelligent optimized ML based passive cell balancing scheme is presented in this work. To select a better balancing scheme, an enhanced passive cell balancing is implemented through model-based simulations and circuit implementations. The balancing is carried out, when the EV is in off condition and when the battery is being charged. It is then compared against widely used active inductance based balancing for E-vehicle segments based on the quantum of imbalance, energy efficiency, cost estimation, and balancing speed through simulation. In the simulation, Equivalent Circuit Model (ECM) is implemented, and parameters of the model are acquired using Electro-chemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) test. Final voltage-based algorithm is used to balance the cells which are all at a high State of Charge (SOC). Theoretical investigations are compared with experimental outcomes. Based on the experimental result, the balancing system's important characteristics were implemented by considering energy loss and battery performance.
