Abstract:

The report introduces the India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI), a first-of-its-kind tool that benchmarks the electric mobility transition across 28 states and 8 union territories using indicators on EV adoption, charging infrastructure, and innovation. It highlights varying performance levels in transport electrification, infrastructure readiness, and EV research, with Delhi, Maharashtra, and Chandigarh emerging as leaders. The index aims to enable peer learning, evidence-based policymaking, and targeted state-level action to accelerate EV growth and competitiveness. By tracking progress, the IEMI supports coordinated efforts to enhance India’s electric mobility ecosystem and contribute to national climate and net-zero goals.
