Abstract:
Human activity has resulted in an increase in greenhouse gas emissions, which is the primary cause of severe environmental changes. More over a quarter of these emissions come from the transportation industry. To reduce these emissions, initiatives are being made, including the electrification of the transportation sector. In support of these efforts, Ghana plans to introduce electric vehicles to assist reduce emissions; however, no research has been conducted to determine the elements that impact consumers' intents to purchase electric vehicles. To explain the purchase intentions, an expanded form of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) was used. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the demographic items. The constructs of the TPB were analyzed – the measurement model and structural model – using AMOS 23. The models satisfied the reliability, validity, and model fit requirements. Factors that influence intentions to purchase electric vehicles have been identified, and recommendations are given.
