Abstract:
Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) are poised to play an integral role in the negotiations leading up to COP21. INDCs are intended to communicate country targets and strategies to reduce carbon emissions particularly in transport sector. Starting in 2016, countries will have to operationalize the transport components of their INDCs, and thus will need a robust set of data, tools, and analysis to ensure that INDC targets are ultimately realized. The document highlights that to respond to this need, PPMC is creating a knowledge base to assist both internal and external partners (e.g. national ministries and international supporting entities) in defining transport targets and implementing mitigation strategies. The proposed knowledge base is divided into two primary areas: transport greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions-related databases, and transport greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions analysis and reports, each of which are to be composed of a number of existing and forthcoming knowledge products.
