Abstract:
Last year, Karnataka announced a landmark policy on electric vehicles, becoming the first Indian state to do so. Now, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is in the process of procuring its first fleet of 40 electric buses. This study identifies the key barriers in the large-scale penetration of electric vehicles and proposes a long-term implementation plan for public electric bus transportation for Bengaluru. The detailed assessment and framework presented in this report can serve as a template for similar initiatives in other cities.
