Addressing Climate Change in Transport

Volume 1: Pathway to Low-Carbon Transport

Publication Year: 2019

Author(s): Bongardt D, Oh Jung E, Cordeiro M, Rogers John A, Nguyen K, Dang Ly T, Tuan Vu A

Abstract:

This analytical work shows how Vietnam can reduce its carbon emissions through a mix of diverse policies and investments, under varying levels of ambition and resources. In addition to a baseline of transport emissions until 2030, three possible mitigation scenarios have been developed. The report also includes analyses of economic benefits and costs and presents findings in marginal abatement cost curves. It aims at providing useful insights and specific recommendations towards enhancing Vietnam’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and the next medium-term public investment plan for the period of 2021 to 2025.

The report was prepared by Vietnamese Researchers together with GIZ, World Bank and the Department of Environment in the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport. It is part of the Advancing Transport Climate Strategies (TraCS) project funded through the International Climate Initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
