Commuting, i.e. the way between home and work, comprises around a fifth of all passenger traffic in Germany. Commuting continues to increase, especially in the metropolitan areas. This fact sheet provides a brief overview of this type of mobility, from the length and duration of the trips and the preferred means of transport to the consequences for land, climate, costs, health and family life. Finally, the fact sheet goes into how commuting could change as a result of the corona pandemic.
