Total 5,17,322 electric vehicles registered in the country over the last three years, 38 Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) of e-2W, e-3W & e- 4W registered under phase-II of FAME-India Scheme

At present, Phase-II of FAME India Scheme is being implemented for a period of 5 years w.e.f. April 1, 2019 with a total budgetary support of INR 10,000 crores. This phase focusses on supporting electrification of public & shared transportation and aims to support, through subsidies, 7090 e-Buses, 5 lakh e-3 Wheelers, 55000 e-4 Wheeler Passenger Cars and 10 lakh e-2 Wheelers. 38 Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) of e-2W, e-3W & e- 4W have been registered under phase-II of FAME-India Scheme as on August 9, 2021.

JNPT inducts nine electric vehicles

6265 electrical buses have been sanctioned to various State/City Transport Undertakings under Phase-II of the Scheme. The Ministry has also sanctioned 2877 electric vehicles (EVs) charging stations amounting to INR 500 crore (Approx.) in 68 cities across 25 states/UTs under FAME India (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles in India) Scheme Phase II.

Pan-India survey reveals growing willingness among car owners to go electric

According to a survey conducted by Clean Mobility Shift, while 79% of the respondents had bought a petrol or diesel vehicle recently, over 60% stated that they plan to buy a semi- or fully electric car in the future. The survey was carried out to gauge consumer mindset when it comes to the purchase of four-wheelers, sampled responses from nearly 500 current and prospective car owners from over 50 cities in the country on driving habits and their rationale when it comes to their choice of vehicles.

Ministry of Road Transport & Highways Issues Draft Notification, proposing to exempt Battery Operated Vehicles (BOV) from payment of fee for issue or renewal of Registration Certificate

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a draft notification dated 27th May 2021, further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 proposing to exempt Battery Operated Vehicles (BOV) from payment of fees for the purpose of issue or renewal of Registration Certificate and assignment of new registration mark. This has been notified to encourage e- mobility.

Cabinet approves Production Linked Incentive scheme “National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell Battery Storage”

The Cabinet has approved the proposal of Department of Heavy Industry for implementation of the Production Linked Incentive Scheme 'National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage’ for achieving manufacturing capacity of 50 Giga Watt Hour (GWH) of ACC and 5 GWh of "Niche" ACC with an outlay of INR 18,100 crore. ACCs are the new generation of advanced storage technologies that can store electric energy either as electrochemical or as chemical energy and convert it back to electric energy as and when required.

Volkswagen presents technology roadmap for batteries and charging up to 2030

The goal of the roadmap is to significantly reduce the complexity and cost of the battery in order to make the electric car attractive and viable for as many people as possible.

NITI Aayog and RMI India release a new report ‘Mobilising Electric Vehicle Financing in India'

NITI Aayog and Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) India released a new report ‘Mobilising Electric Vehicle Financing in India’, which highlights the role of finance in the India’s transition to electric vehicles (EVs) and analyses that the transition will require a cumulative capital investment of USD 266 billion (INR 19.7 lakh crore) in EVs, charging infrastructure, and batteries over the next decade. The report also identifies a market size of USD 50 billion (INR 3.7 lakh crore) for the financing of EVs in 2030—about 80% of the current size of India’s retail vehicle finance industry.

Representing India at the United Nations Security Council Open Debate on "Addressing climate-related risks to international peace and security", Union Environment Minister, Mr Prakash Javadekar, stressed that the idea of climate action should not be to move the climate ambition goal post to 2050 and it is important for countries to fulfill their pre-2020 commitments.
