PLI Scheme for EV Makers

PLI Scheme for Automobile and Auto Components industry in India incentives Advanced Automobile Technology (AAT) Products. EV is one of the AAT Products. As reported by the approved applicants under this PLI Scheme, Investment up to March 31, 2023 is ₹8,898 crore. However, no claim has been received for the FY 2022-23 and therefore there is no disbursement.

Under Phase-II of FAME-India Scheme, incentives are provided to buyers of electric vehicles in the form of an upfront reduction in the purchase price of electric vehicles. The incentive is linked to battery capacity i.e. Rs. 10,000/KWh for e-3W and e-4W with a cap 20 % of the cost of vehicle. Further, the incentive/ subsidies for e-2W has been fixed @10,000/- per kWh with cap 15% of the cost of vehicle w.e.f. 01st June, 2023.

The market for energy transition minerals reached USD 320 billion in 2022 and is set for continued rapid growth, moving it increasingly to centre stage for the global mining industry.

The new edition of the IEA’s annual Global Electric Vehicle Outlook shows that more than 10 million electric cars were sold worldwide in 2022 and that sales are expected to grow by another 35% this year to reach 14 million. This explosive growth means electric cars’ share of the overall car market has risen from around 4% in 2020 to 14% in 2022 and is set to increase further to 18% this year, based on the latest IEA projections.

Centre sanctions INR 800 crores under FAME Scheme Phase II for 7432 public fast charging stations

These EV charging stations from OMCs will be of the CCS-II type with a capacity of 50 KW and above, offering efficient and fast charging for EV owners, especially for those looking for on-the-go top-up charging. The Committee headed by DG BEE recommended certain changes to improve the viability of the development of public charging infrastructure. It includes supporting the upstream infrastructure (such as distribution transformer, LT & HT cables, AC distribution boxes, circuit breakers/isolators, protection equipment, tubular or PCC mounting structures, fencing and civil work) which generally cost up to 60% of overall cost for setting up a Public EV charging station.

Meghalaya gets electric trains for the first time

Indian Railway is progressing at full throttle for becoming Net Zero Carbon Emitter by 2030. In an endeavour for complete electrification, Northeast Frontier Railway has achieved another milestone by commissioning Dudhnai – Mendipathar (22.823 Track Kilometre) single line section and Abhayapuri – Pancharatna (34.59 Track Kilometre) double line section on 15th March, 2023. The Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE) has carried out the electrification works in these sections.

BEL, Triton Electric Vehicle (TEV) sign MOU

Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has signed an MoU with Triton Electric Vehicle (TEV), for manufacture of hydrogen fuel cells by BEL with technology transfer from TEV, to meet the requirements of Indian market and mutually agreed export markets. The MoU aims at tapping the demand for clean energy solutions for various applications including for e-mobility, by leveraging Government of India’s thrust for adoption of clean energy fuels for applications in transport, energy storage etc.

Air India, AirAsia India and Vistara sign MoU with CSIR-IIP

Air India, AirAsia India and Vistara (Tata SIA Airlines) and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Indian Institute of Petroleum to collaborate and work together on the research, development and deployment of sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs). The focus of the MoU is the exploration of Single Reactor HEFA Technology for Drop-in liquid Sustainable Aviation and Automotive Fuel (DILSAAF).

Based on the recommendations of the expert committee report, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway has issued amendment 2 to AIS 156- Specific requirements for motor vehicles of L category [motor vehicles with less than four wheels and is a quadricycle] with electric power train, and amendment 2 to AIS 038 Rev. 2 - Specific requirements for Electric Power Train of motor vehicles of M category [motor vehicle with at least four wheels used for carrying passengers] and N category [motor vehicle with at least four wheels used for carrying goods which may also carry persons in addition to the goods]. These amendments include additional safety requirements related to battery cells, BMS, on-board charger, design of battery pack, thermal propagation due to internal cell short circuit leading to fire etc.
