E-buses to replace diesel-run fleet to curb rising air pollution levels

The fleet of diesel-powered government buses in Kolkata will be replaced by electric buses to curb the rising levels of air pollution. The replacement will be carried out in phases. To begin with, 400 buses will be replaced by electric buses and the remaining fleet of nearly 800 buses will be replaced subsequently in phases.

Country's first e-vehicles-only area to be developed in Kevadia, Gujarat

The Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority will develop the "country's first electric vehicles-only area" in Gujarat's Kevadia. In its statement, the authority said that the area surrounding the 182-metre tall Statue of Unity in Kevadia in Gujarat's tribal-dominated Narmada district will be converted into an electric-vehicles-only area in a phased manner.

JBM Renewables, CESL sign pact for setting up electric mobility ecosystem in India

Under the scope of the MoU, signed for a period of 3 years, JBM Renewables and CESL will jointly undertake setting up of public charging infrastructure across India for electric vehicles. This will include investment, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance.

Centre proposes exemption of electric vehicles from registration renewal charges

The transport ministry has proposed to exempt electric vehicles from payment of fees for the issue or renewal of registration certificate and assignment of new registration mark. The ministry has issued a draft notification in this regard, inviting comments and suggestions from stakeholders on the matter. Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, will be amended in this regard.

Maharashtra pushes Electric Vehicle Policy

The Maharashtra government aims to ensure 10% of all new registered vehicles in its major cities would be electric by 2025, as per the draft of the Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, 2021. The policy draft targets all urban agglomerations — Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Aurangabad, Pune, Nagpur. Nashik also aims to achieve 25% electrification of intra-city public transport and last mile delivery vehicles by 2025.

Karnataka tweaks EV policy, to offer 15% capital subsidy to investors

The Karnataka Cabinet has decided to give 15% capital subsidy to investors in the electric vehicle sector after the state came under immense pressure from a few states which offered apparently better sops. The Cabinet decided to amend its Karnataka Electric Vehicle & Storage Policy, 2017, to improve upon its existing policy.

Ford expects 40% of global sales to be electric vehicles by 2030

Ford is doubling down on electric vehicle development, announcing Wednesday it will invest $30 billion in electrification efforts by 2025. The automaker also pledged that 40% of its vehicles sold by 2030 will be electric. Ford had previously announced plans to spend $22 billion on electrification efforts and had recently revealed plans to build two new battery factories in a joint venture with Korean battery maker SK innovation.

Electric two-wheelers to contribute around 10 per cent new sales by 2025 in India

The electric two and three-wheelers volume are expected to account for 8-10 percent and 30 percent of new vehicle sales in the country by 2025, respectively, owing to low operating cost and attractive subsidy support, among others, according to ratings agency ICRA. The penetration levels in cars and trucks, however, are likely to remain low in the medium-term, it said.

118 electric vehicle charging stations to dot Hyderabad

To cater to the needs of increasing battery vehicles in Hyderabad, the Department of Heavy Industries is working on setting up 118 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Apart from Hyderabad, 10 EV charging stations each are also coming up in Warangal and Karimnagar taking the total EV charging stations to 138 in Telangana.

Mahindra sets up new mobility centre in UK with focus on electric vehicles

Mahindra Group has announced the setting up of Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (M.A.D.E) in the West Midlands, UK. The new Centre of Excellence (CoE), will be a part of the Mahindra Global Design Network that includes the Mahindra Design Studio in Mumbai, India, and Pininfarina Design in Turin, Italy.
