Electric vehicles' market share has grown to 6.2 per cent in 2021 from 3.1 per cent in 2020. According to a study by Jato, the market share of electric vehicles has doubled to 6.2 per cent from 3.1 per cent, as the popularity of zero-emission vehicles has been increasing around the world.

Sony, Honda to form new company to develop and sell electric vehicles

The two companies said in a statement they would form a joint venture to develop and sell the electric vehicles this year and aim to begin selling the first model in 2025. Honda will be responsible for manufacturing the first model, while Sony will develop the mobility service platform.

DTC Board approves deployment of 1500 electric buses under CESL 'Grand Challenge'

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) Board has given in-principle approval for the deployment of 1500 electric buses under an initiative of Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), paving the way for a clean public transport system in the national capital. Through its 'Grand Challenge' scheme, CESL proposes to deploy 5450 single-decker and 130 double-decker buses in five metros - Bangalore, Delhi, Surat, Hyderabad and Kolkata - in the first phase.

15% electric vehicles in Himachal by 2025

The Himachal Pradesh Transport Minister has said that the state government has set up a target to replace 15 per cent of vehicles in Himachal with electric vehicles by 2025. The key objective of the state EV policy is to make Himachal a global hub in electric mobility and manufacture of electric vehicles and to create public and private charging infrastructure for such vehicles.

Hyundai to launch 17 EV models by 2030

South Korean auto giant Hyundai has planned to come up with at least 17 complete electric vehicle (EV) models by 2030. The plan is to ensure a robust EV line up and stay afloat in the view of tough competition from rival EV makers in the global market. According to the company, it looks to capture a 7 percent market share in the global EV market. In absolute numbers, Hyundai wants to sell more than 1.8 million electric vehicles every year on an average by 2030.

Niti Aayog to roll out EV battery swapping policy in four months

Niti Aayog plans to roll out a ‘battery swapping policy’ – which will give electric vehicle buyers an option not to own its battery thereby bringing down the upfront cost and fast-tracking EV adoption – in the next 3-4 months. The proposed policy will introduce disruptive business models such as battery as a service (BaaS), leasing, etc. so that electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler customers need not own the battery, which is about 50% of the total vehicle cost, bringing down the upfront vehicle cost much below the ICE counterparts.

Electric vehicle charging stations expand 2.5 times in 9 mega cities in India

Additional 678 public EV charging stations were installed between October 2021 and January 2022 in Surat, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai. About 940 of India's 1640 public EV chargers are located in these cities.
