Tamil Nadu has become one of the largest manufacturers of electric vehicles (EVs) sold this year, according to the data from Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ Vahan website. Out of the 1 million EVs sold in India this year, more than 400,000 EVs were manufactured in Tamil Nadu.

The production of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in India is expected to jump 11 times, reaching 9.7 million by 2027-28 due to factors such as urbanization, high fuel prices, reduced battery costs, concerns over pollution, and government incentives, according to a report. Recently, India crossed the threshold of registering 1 million EVs. The report titled “Charged for Success: India’s EV landscape” was released by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the knowledge partner, Avalon Consultancy.

Electric vehicle (EV) sales in India topped the 1 million mark in less than nine months in 2023, a milestone that took an entire year in 2022. According to data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ Vahan Dashboard, 1,037,011 EVs were registered with regional transport offices till September 19, accounting for 6.4 per cent of the total automobile sales in the country this year.
