India is set to initiate the bidding process for an approximately Rs 8,000 crore ($960 million) incentive scheme dedicated to the production of electric vehicle batteries, as disclosed in a Bloomberg report. The scheme will mandate successful bidders to establish cutting-edge chemistry battery plants, collectively generating a capacity of 20 gigawatt-hours.

Researchers have developed a new technology that could enable next-generation electric vehicles (EVs) and other devices that are less prone to battery fires while increasing energy storage. The study, published in the journal Nature, suppresses the growth of lithium dendrites -- damaging branch-like structures that develop inside so-called all-solid-state lithium batteries, preventing firms from broadly commercialising the promising technology.

BIS approved India’s first AC, DC combined charging connector for Light EVs

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has approved the country’s first ever indigenously developed AC and DC Combined Charging connector standard for light electric vehicles (LEVs). Lithium battery demand to reach 250-500 GWh in India by FY33

Tata Motors to reskill 50% staff to transition to EV manufacturing by 2027

Tata Motors is implementing a multi-pronged strategy to upskill its workforce to be future-ready to transition to the EV landscape. Focusing on capability-building, Tata Motors said it has partnered with educational institutions, and developed curated training modules to address the developmental needs of all employees beginning with shopfloor technicians to line engineers, and plant management. The company said over 57,000 employees are at various stages of training.
