At Delhi EV forum's first meet, talks of green push

Delhi government convened the first Delhi EV Forum virtual meeting on December 18, 2020, which saw 130 participants from auto, charging and fleet sectors, along with civil society organisations and experts. The forum has been established to serve as a platform for continuous engagement with stakeholders in the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem for successful implementation of the Delhi EV Policy, said a statement from Dialogue & Development Commission, which hosted the first meeting on behalf of the government.

There is a growing consensus among automotive professionals and the public in India alike that the future of vehicles is electric. Several surveys indicate that an overwhelming majority of customers state that they are open to considering an Electric Vehicle (EV) for their next purchase. India can see up to 14 per cent reduction in carbondioxide (CO2) emissions in the small commercial vehicle segment with higher electric vehicle (EV) penetration in total sales by 2030, according to a study. The study -- Roadmap for Electrification of Urban Freight in India -- was conducted to assess the operational and financial feasibility of EVs in the urban freight (UF) segment by undertaking a survey-based analysis of five sectors in Delhi, Bengaluru and Surat. It was released by TERI in association with Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation.

Pure EV to tie-up with CSIR-CECRI for indigenising lithium-ion battery technology for EVs

IIT Hyderabad-incubated startup Pure EV is collaborating with CSIR – Central Electro Chemical Research Institute (CECRI), headquartered at Karaikudi with its extension centre in Chennai, on indigenising Lithium-Ion battery (LIB) technology for electric vehicles (EVs). Pure EV has signed a memorandum of understanding with CSIR- CECRI to undertake joint research on the production of battery packs, validation of LIB cells and addressing the specific requirements to ensure the suitability of developed LIBs for critical performance at the standard operating procedure (SoP) conditions.

Uber announces launch of 3,000 electric two-wheeler, three-wheelers and cabs in 2021

Microsoft Azure partners with Sun Mobility to create EV batteries that connect to the cloud

According to Microsoft, electric vehicles solutions firm SUN Mobility is using its Azure Cloud as well as other solutions in developing Cloud-connected swappable batteries to put the country on the road to the future. The batteries as well as the swap stations are connected to the Cloud using Microsoft Azure and numerous built-in solutions like Azure IoT Hub, Azure Data Factory, CosmosDB, Azure Databricks, among others, that transmit battery performance telemetrics back to SUN Mobility.

Andhra Pradesh lays out plan to introduce 10 lakh EVs by 2024

Andhra Pradesh plans to attract an investment of INR 30,000 crore and create 60,000 jobs in the electric vehicles (EVs) manufacturing sector, even as the state government laid out a plan to introduce 10 lakh EVs by 2024. The state said it planned to develop a holistic research and development ecosystem, together with manufacturing units, to propel EV growth in the Andhra. A Centre for Advanced Automotive Research, in collaboration with organisations like ISRO, IISER and IITs, to foster advance research in chemical, mechanical, electrical and electronics engineering will soon be set up to drive the new EV policy.

INR 12.5 lakh crore investment needed to realise India’s 2030 electric vehicles targets, says study

Indian electric vehicle (EV) market could be worth around INR 14.42 lakh crore if the country were to achieve its 2030 EV ambitions but would need cumulative investment of about INR 12.5 lakh crore for the same, according to a study by CEEW Centre for Energy Finance. The study also said realising India’s EV ambition would require an estimated annual battery capacity of 158 GWh by FY30, thereby presenting a massive market opportunity for domestic manufacturers.
