The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has plans to set up charging stations in the city for electric vehicles (EV) with the help of the state-owned Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). PMC’s proposal on the EV adoption has advanced to the final stage of the 2021 Global Mayors Challenge, a worldwide competition that encourages and spreads most promising ideas by cities.

Gujarat rolls out EV policy with sops for buyers, setting up charging infra

The Gujarat government has rolled out its first electric vehicle (EV) policy for the next four years, offering subsidies and capital incentives to EV buyers and for setting up charging infrastructure. The state government is targeting to have around two lakh EVs on the road in Gujarat by 2025, including 1.25 lakh two-wheelers, 75,000 three-wheelers and 20,000-plus four-wheelers.

In addition to the modelling exercises for which data gathering from select smart cities has already taken off, a first-of-its kind digital library on e-mobility has been launched which has brought together all research on clean mobility on a single platform.

The city has advanced to the final stage of the 2021 Global Mayors Challenge, a worldwide competition that encourages and spreads most promising ideas by cities. The top 15 cities will win $ 1 million each as financial assistance to implement their breakthrough ideas and to spread the ideas to other cities around the world.
HOP Electric Mobility launches 2 new EV scooter models

EV maker HOP Electric Mobility has launched two new scooter models and plans to roll out five vehicles, including an e-bike, by the end of this fiscal year. The company said it is also looking to set up charging stations, starting from Jaipur and further expanding them to other parts of the country.

India needs about 400,000 charging stations to meet the requirement for two million Electric Vehicles (EV) that could potentially ply on its roads by 2026. The Grant Thornton Bharat-Ficci report said for India to reach its vision of 100 per cent EVs by 2030, factors such as increasing government support, decreasing cost of technology, and distressing pollution levels, would be key to accelerate this transition. As per EV industry body - Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles - there are 1,800 charging stations in India as of March 2021 for approximately 16,200 electric cars, including the fleet segment.
