Air India, AirAsia India and Vistara sign MoU with CSIR-IIP

Air India, AirAsia India and Vistara (Tata SIA Airlines) and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Indian Institute of Petroleum to collaborate and work together on the research, development and deployment of sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs). The focus of the MoU is the exploration of Single Reactor HEFA Technology for Drop-in liquid Sustainable Aviation and Automotive Fuel (DILSAAF).
Additional safety requirements recommended in the existing battery safety standards with effect from 1st October 2022

Based on the recommendations of the expert committee report, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway has issued amendment 2 to AIS 156- Specific requirements for motor vehicles of L category [motor vehicles with less than four wheels and is a quadricycle] with electric power train, and amendment 2 to AIS 038 Rev. 2 - Specific requirements for Electric Power Train of motor vehicles of M category [motor vehicle with at least four wheels used for carrying passengers] and N category [motor vehicle with at least four wheels used for carrying goods which may also carry persons in addition to the goods]. These amendments include additional safety requirements related to battery cells, BMS, on-board charger, design of battery pack, thermal propagation due to internal cell short circuit leading to fire etc.
EV share in auto components to be 9-11% by fiscal 2027

Revenue of the electric vehicle (EV) components’ market in India is likely to rev up at a compound annual growth rate of ~76% to INR 72,500 crore in fiscal 2027 from INR 4,300 crore last fiscal. That will take the share of EVs in the overall automotive components market to 9-11% — up from a negligible 1% currently — even as the supply of parts for internal combustion engine (ICE)-driven vehicles also rises.
NITI Aayog and TIFAC launch report on future penetration of electric two-wheelers in the Indian market

Using a tool made by NITI Aayog and TIFAC, eight scenarios have been developed for analyzing the future penetration of electric two-wheelers in the country. In an optimistic scenario, the report forecasts 100% penetration of electric two-wheelers in the Indian market by FY 2026–27. In another scenario, which is technology driven and where current incentives are withdrawn by 2024, the report predicts 72% penetration by 2031.
BIS formulates performance standards for Electric Vehicle Batteries

Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS), National Standard Body of India, has published standards for Test Specifications for Lithium-ion Traction Battery Packs and Systems (Performance Testing) for Electrically Propelled Road Vehicles. The standard IS 17855: 2022 for these battery packs and systems is harmonized with ISO 12405-4: 2018.
Global electric car sales have continued their strong growth in 2022 after breaking records last year

Electric car sales powered through 2021 and have remained strong so far in 2022, but ensuring future growth will demand greater efforts to diversify battery manufacturing and critical mineral supplies to reduce the risks of bottlenecks and price rises, according to the International Energy Agency.
Ministry of Heavy Industries sanctions 1576 EV charging stations across 16 highways & 9 expressways under Phase-II of FAME India Scheme

The Ministry of Heavy Industries has sanctioned 2877 charging stations in 68 cities across 25 states/UTs under Phase-II of FAME India Scheme. Further, MHI has sanctioned 1576 EV Charging Stations across 16 Highways & 9 Expressways under this phase.
Government of India to expand Public Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure across the nation

The Ministry of Power recently issued the revised consolidated Guidelines and Standards for EV charging infrastructure on January 14, 2022. The Government of India has undertaken multiple initiatives to promote the manufacturing and adoption of electric vehicles in the country. With the considerable expansion in the public EV charging infrastructure, the electric vehicles have started penetrating the Indian market.

The Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi (DDC) and World Resources Institute, India (WRI India) launched the ‘EV Charging Guidebook for Shopping Malls in Delhi’ on February 4, 2022 to simplify and enable the adoption of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging in the parking space of shopping malls in Delhi.

To promote eco-friendly means of transportation and decarbonize the transport sector, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has notified mass emission standards to introduce alternate fuels viz. blends of ethanol with gasoline ( E-10, E-12, E-15, E-20), flex-fuel (E 85) or (E 100) and Ethanol blend for diesel vehicles (ED 95), Biodiesel, Bio-CNG, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Methanol M15 or M100 and Methanol MD 95, dual fuel, M85 and Di-Methyl Ether (DME or D100), Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle, Hydrogen CNG.
