Meghalaya has got the electric train for the first time after the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has commissioned the 22.82 km track of Dudhnai-Mendipathar railway line. The Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE) carried out the electrification works in these sections.

Delhi has shown the highest electric vehicle (EV) penetration in India at 8.3% between April 2021 and September 2022, a study by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), has shown. The study, called the Greening India's Automotive Sector, found that the Burari RTO is the greenest in India. Between April 2021 and September 2022, 46.38% of sold vehicles registered were EVs.

As India gears up to boost electric vehicle (EV) adoption, the massive find of lithium reserves in the country has brightened up the prospects for the country in the field of EV battery cell manufacturing. According to the Council on Energy, Environment and Water, the country will require Rs 33,750 crore of investment to meet its domestic lithium-ion battery manufacturing target of setting up 50 GWh of lithium-ion cell and battery manufacturing plants.

Punjab government approves Electric Vehicle Policy

The Finance Minister, in her Budget speech on February 1, 2023, focussed on green energy and electric vehicles. Ms Sitharaman extended Customs duty exemption for the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries and introduced more sops to boost vehicle scrappage. She also announced viability gap funding (VGF) for battery energy storage system (BESS) projects with a capacity of 4000 MWh.
Japan's Suzuki to invest $35 billion through 2030 in EVs

Suzuki Motor Corp will invest 4.5 trillion yen ($34.8 billion) through fiscal 2030 in research, development and capital spending to make battery electric vehicles. The company would invest 2 trillion yen in electrification and autonomous driving technologies, while allocating 2.5 trillion yen to build a battery EV plant and for renewable energy facilities.
Electric two-wheeler sales surge 300%, breach 600,000-mark in 2022

The electric two-wheeler (E2W) market crossed the 600,000 sales target (of units) and achieved a market penetration of 4 per cent in Calendar 2022 (CY22), reveals VAHAN data. According to VAHAN, 624,192 two-wheeler units were registered in the country, up a staggering 300 per cent over 2021, when only 153,523 units were registered; electric vehicle (EV) penetration was just 1 per cent.
