The government has extended the PM E-DRIVE scheme by two years to March 31, 2028 with electric two-wheelers continuing to receive purchase incentives as part of efforts to accelerate EV adoption and strengthen domestic manufacturing. Under the revised provisions, registered electric two-wheelers will be eligible for purchase incentives for the period from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2028

The Ministry of Heavy Industries has mandated domestic manufacturing of key electronic systems in electric trucks from September 2026. The revised PMP enforces component-level production of BMS, DC-DC converters, and VCUs. Compliance with these localisation requirements will be necessary for manufacturers to qualify for incentives under the government’s e-truck subsidy scheme.
Haryana drafts new building code to allow EV charging in basements

The department of town and country planning (DTCP), Government of Haryana, has proposed amendments to the Haryana Building Code 2017 to allow the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across residential and commercial real estate projects in the city and throughout the state. The department has also proposed to allow EV charging points in basements and stilt parking areas subject to compliance with fire safety norms,

The Union Budget 2026-27 allocates INR 1,500 crore to the PM E-Drive scheme. The PM E-Drive scheme, succeeding FAME India in October 2024 with a ₹10,900 crore budget, supported over 2.1 million EVs by December 2025. Purchase incentives for two- and three-wheelers end by March 2026.
