Country’s first organic waste-powered EV charging station inaugurated in Mumbai

The station, a first-of-its-kind, will generate 220 units of electricity from food waste collected from its nearby areas, mostly from bulk generators like hotels and offices. Along with powering street lights, this energy plant will now charge electric vehicles too. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to set up organic waste-powered EV charging station in each of the 24 administrative wards.

Ashok Leyland's arm Switch Mobility to invest INR 1000 crore in electric vehicle plant

Switch Mobility, the electric vehicle arm of Ashok Leyland, will be investing INR 1000 crore in a dedicated EV plant in South India, likely to be in the state of Tamil Nadu, on the outskirts of Chennai. The plan is to set up 30,000 units of E-LCV capacity and 10,000 units electric buses that will help Ashok Leyland to cater to to cater to rising demand for EVs for the last-mile goods and public transport.

India partners with Japan for affordable EV charging standard

India has joined hands with Japan to develop an electric vehicle charging standard for emerging markets. Under the partnership, the two countries aim to develop easy-to-build EV charging stations based on Japanese protocols that are claimed to slash installation costs by two-thirds. The CHAdeMO Association, the organization responsible for Japan's charging standard, will work with India's standards drafting committee. The drafting committee includes automakers such as Mahindra Electric and Maruti Suzuki.

ARAI, Chitkara University sign MoU for automobile engineering

Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has tied up with Chitkara University, Punjab, to offer bachelor of engineering in automobile engineering with specialisation in electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles. Students will get to learn the fundamentals of electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles in the first two-and-a-half years at Chitkara University, after which students would go to ARAI Academy, Pune, to study latest technologies and get hands-on practical exposure over the next one-and-a-half year.

PMPML to scale up EV charging stations as more electric buses join its fleet

In the process of phasing out all diesel-run buses and adding more electric vehicles to its fleet, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) plans to increase electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to meet the demand. The EV charging station at Wagholi is ready for commissioning and is capable of charging 70 electric buses at a time.

MG partners with Bharat Petroleum to bolster EV charging infrastructure

Draft battery swapping policy released by NITI Aayog

The battery swapping and battery interoperability policy, though applicable for light electric power train vehicles, will focus on electric two-wheelers and electric three-wheelers. It aims to increase interoperability so that EVs of different brands can use publicly available swapping stations. The policy also addresses battery safety and other issues pertaining to the EV industry in the country.
