EV sales in India charge past 700,000 units in first six months of 2023

Retail sales of electric vehicles in India have charged past the 700,000-unit mark in the first half of calendar year 2023. As of end-June 2023, as per Vahan data referenced on July 1, total sales were recorded at 721,971 units, which is already 73% of India EV Inc’s record sales in CY2022.

The EV industry is at an inflection point and batteries will play a critical role ahead -- batteries and related components typically constitute 35-45 per cent of an EV's costs. Recently, Tata Group, which commands an 85 per cent share of the electric car market, signed an agreement with the Gujarat government to set up a lithium ion cell factory at an investment of Rs 13,000 crore having a capacity of 20-gigawatt hour (GWh) at Sanand, which could be doubled in the second phase of expansion. Another plant in Europe is also planned.

TN paves the way for the decarbonisation of commercial passenger fleets

Commercial passenger fleets and small transport vehicle operators in Tamil Nadu can now work on replacing their diesel or petrol vehicles in their fleet with battery-operated vehicles or vehicles powered by alternative fuels such as ethanol, methanol as the State Government has issued an order that will allow green vehicles to play on the roads with permits at zero cost.

Delhi government planning fest to promote sale, safe usage of EVs

The Delhi transport department is planning a series of electric vehicle (EV) festivals or EV utsav, to promote the sale and usage of EVs in the city. the series will bring all stakeholders together — including buyers, sellers, battery providers, and swapping agencies — for all segments of two, three, and four-wheelers.
Tamil Nadu eyes $6 bn investment in EVs, 150,000 jobs in five years

Master app in the works to ease electric vehicle charging

From Goa to Kerala, four states breach 10% adoption of e-2-wheelers

Four states in the country have breached the 10 per cent mark in electric two-wheeler (e2W) penetration, according to the latest data from Vahan Dashboard. Goa leads the way with 17.20 per cent, albeit with modest numbers, followed by Kerala (13.66 per cent) and Karnataka (12.19 per cent). Maharashtra, with a penetration of 10.74 per cent, is by far the largest state in the number of e2Ws sold.
