PLI Scheme for Automobile and Auto Components industry in India incentives Advanced Automobile Technology (AAT) Products. EV is one of the AAT Products. As reported by the approved applicants under this PLI Scheme, Investment up to March 31, 2023 is ₹8,898 crore. However, no claim has been received for the FY 2022-23 and therefore there is no disbursement.
8738 public EV charging stations operating in India as of June: Minister

As India strives towards decarbonizing the transport sector, the country has installed 8,738 operational public electric vehicle charging stations, as of June 30, 2023, according to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and the Ministry of Power data. The information was shared by the Minister of State for Heavy Industries in a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
Lexus set to foray into used car business, roll out first electric vehicle in India by 2025

Lexus is looking to foray into the used car business in India, having now completed six years in the market. The Japanese carmaker, which currently sells its product range through 23 touch points, aims to transition some of the sales outlets to also cater to the pre-owned car vertical.
Only 0.8% electric vehicles in country out of 34 crore vehicles registered

Electric vehicles constitute a miniscule 0.8 per cent of the total number of vehicles registered in the country, despite government pushing for greener vehicles since 2015. According to an official data, out of the total slightly over 34 crore vehicles registered with road transport ministry's e-vahan portal, as on July 14, 2023, only over 27 lakh vehicles were registered as electrical vehicles.

A senior official from BMW has revealed plans to begin local production of its electric vehicles (EVs) in India, citing the growing popularity of the company's EVs in the Indian market. The localisation process involves considering both the volume of sales in the Indian market and the necessary technological stability.

Under Phase-II of FAME-India Scheme, incentives are provided to buyers of electric vehicles in the form of an upfront reduction in the purchase price of electric vehicles. The incentive is linked to battery capacity i.e. Rs. 10,000/KWh for e-3W and e-4W with a cap 20 % of the cost of vehicle. Further, the incentive/ subsidies for e-2W has been fixed @10,000/- per kWh with cap 15% of the cost of vehicle w.e.f. 01st June, 2023.
Government announces re-bidding under PLI for advanced chemistry cell manufacturing

The government has announced the re-bidding of production linked incentives for 20 GWh Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) manufacturing -- India's Rs 18,100-crore programme to boost local battery cell production. ACCs are the new generation of advanced storage technologies that can store electric energy either as electrochemical or as chemical energy and convert it back to electric energy as and when required.
Uttar Pradesh government launches portal for claiming electric vehicle subsidies

In its efforts to promote electric vehicles, the Uttar Pradesh government launched a portal — upevsubsidy.in — through which eligible citizens can avail subsidies online. For buyers purchasing EVs without batteries, the subsidy amount will be 50 percent of the total subsidy.
All new tourist vehicles in Goa to be EVs from January 2024

All new tourist vehicles, as well as cabs and motorbikes provided on rent in Goa will have to be electric vehicles from January 2024, Chief Minister of Goa, Mr Pramod Sawant said. The Goa government proposes major reforms to promote EVs in the coastal state.

The number of electric vehicles in India has surged from just 2400 a decade ago to over 27.4 lakh as of July 2023. However, given the concurrent rise in the number of non-electric vehicles, the overall share of electric vehicles has still not crossed the 1% mark. Notably, there is also a wide inter-State disparity in the penetration of electric vehicles.
