India’s first Hydrogen Fuel Cell electric hybrid car successfully completed its maiden test run in Pune.The technology, developed over four years, has the potential to reduce dependence on petrol and diesel once introduced in markets. This indigenously developed technology was a collaborative effort between scientists from two Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) labs – National Chemical Laboratory, Pune and Central Electro Chemical Research Institute, Karaikudi along with KPIT, Pune.

Mahindra Treo becomes India’s first lithium-ion 3-wheeler to achieve 5,000 units sales milestone

The Mahindra Treo range has crossed a sales milestone of 5,000 units and is currently being sold in over 400 districts across the country. Cumulatively, the Treo has travelled a distance of over 35 million kms on Indian roads, saving 1,925 metric tonnes of CO2 tailpipe emissions, equivalent to planting 87,500 trees to absorb the same emissions.

The Indian government’s decision to reduce Goods and Services Tax levied on electric cars to just 5% and the other incentives being offered by the state governments will help automobile manufacturers launch more electric vehicles in the domestic market, said Martin Schwenk, managing director, Mercedes-Benz India Pvt Ltd in an interview. The German vehicle maker became the first luxury car maker and overall the third Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to launch a battery powered electric car in India after Hyundai Motor India Ltd and M G Motor India Ltd.

Uber to add 1,000 electric cars to its fleet in India

Uber has announced that it will add 1,000 electric vehicles to its fleet in India. The new electric vehicles will be offered in partnership with Lithium Urban Technologies, an electric vehicles fleet operator, in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune. The electric vehicles, all sedans, will be available for hire through Uber's Premier and Rental services on its app. Uber plans to scale up the number of electric cars in its fleet from 100 currently to 2,000 in the next 12 months.

670 new electric buses and 241 charging stations sanctioned under FAME scheme

In a big push towards electric mobility the Government has sanctioned 670 Electric buses in the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat and Chandigarh and 241 Charging Stations in Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat and Port Blair under Phase-II of FAME India Scheme. Phase-II of FAME India Scheme focuses on supporting electrification of public and shared transportation and aims to support, through subsidies, approximately 7000 e-buses, 5 lakh e-3 wheelers, 55000 e-4 wheeler passenger cars and 10 lakh e-2 wheelers.

Electric mobility: EV subsidies announced in Gujarat

The Gujarat state government has announced a new scheme aimed at fostering growth in the adoption of electric vehicles in the state. Under the scheme, school students, i.e. those in 9th standard and above, as well as college students will be eligible to receive a subsidy of Rs 12,000 upon the purchase of an electric two-wheeler. Rickshaw drivers and any self-employed person will receive a subsidy of Rs 42,000 upon the purchase of an electric three-wheeler.

Telangana woos EV firms with incentives

Telangana has come up with the new ‘Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Solution Policy’ to promote the usage of electric vehicles (EVs) and attract investors in the green mobility sector by giving various incentives. EV companies will get preferential market access to establish their manufacturing plants in Telangana. The state government has been able to secure from the Electricity Regulatory Authority in Telangana special tariff for EV charging stations.

EESL to procure 250 electric vehicles from TATA Motors Limited & Hyundai Motor India Ltd

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Super Energy Service Company (ESCO) under the administrative control of Ministry of Power, Government of India, will procure 250 electric vehicles from Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor India. The companies were selected through an international competitive bidding process, which was aimed at increased participation. Tata Motors Limited and Hyundai Motor India Limited won the tender and now will supply 150 Nexon electric compact SUVs & 100 Kona electric premium SUVs respectively for government use.

Mahindra ties up with Israel's REE Automotive to develop commercial EVs

The collaboration will leverage REE's revolutionary electric vehicle corner module and platform technology of integrating powertrain, suspension and steering components in the arch of a vehicle wheel. The partnership will support REE's global customer need for up to 250,000 electric commercial vehicle units over a few years, including any volumes for Mahindra's domestic and international markets.

NITI Aayog to Launch Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC)–Transport Initiative for Asia (TIA) India Component -- NDC-TIA India Component to focus on establishing a multi-stakeholder dialogue platform for decarbonizing transport in India

With the aim to promote a comprehensive approach to decarbonize transport in India, Vietnam, and China, NDC–TIA is a joint programme, supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and implemented by a consortium of seven organisations, namely Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), World Resources Institute (WRI), International Transport Forum (ITF),  Agora Verkehrswende (AGORA), Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) Foundation, Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century e.V. (REN21). The India Component is implemented by six consortium organisations, all except SLoCaT. On behalf of the Government of India, NITI Aayog, will be the implementing partner.
