Triton EV plans to launch electric car in India this year – to rival Tesla

Triton-EV that has announced plans to launch its first product in the Indian market. Named N4, the electric sedan will be rivalling Tesla Model 3 in the Indian market. For the Indian market, the company is looking to collaborate with Bharat Electronics Ltd. If the deal goes through, the two companies can work together to develop electronic systems and batteries for N4 and other EVs planned for the Indian market.

Delhi govt floats tender to set up 500 EV charging points at 100 locations

Delhi government has floated nation's biggest tender for EV (electric vehicle) charging, with provision for 500 charging points at 100 locations in Delhi so that EVs can be charged outside homes too. The estimated timeline to complete the project is one year.

Delhi launches Switch Delhi campaign to boost EV adoption in the national capital

No road tax, registration fee on electric vehicles in Telangana from February 3

Telangana government has exempted road tax and registration fee on purchase of various kinds of electric vehicles running on batteries, instead of fuel. According to the government order, 100% road tax and registration fee exemption would be given for the first two lakh electric two-wheelers, first 20,000 electric 3-wheelers, first 10,000 electric light goods carriers including 3-wheelers (goods carriers), first 5,000 private cars and 5,000 electric four-wheelers (commercial passenger vehicles like cabs and tourist taxis).

Boost for state green transport proposal, Bengal expects share of INR 18k crore pie

Kolkata and other towns in Bengal expect a sizeable share of INR 18,000 crore pie for the augmentation of public bus transport service that will be green and run by alternative clean energy. The opex model of operation in the FAME-II scheme has widened the opportunity of participation of private players. The scheme, the Union Finance Minister said in her budget speech, will facilitate the deployment of innovative PPP models to enable private sector players to finance, acquire, operate and maintain over 20,000 buses.

India's EV transition will require $266 billion investment over next decade: Report

India's Electric Vehicle (EV) transition will require a cumulative capital investment of $266 billion, around INR 19.7 lakh crore, in EVs, charging infrastructure, and batteries over the next decade, according to a new report by Niti Aayog and Rocky Mountain Institute. The report "Mobilising Finance for EVs in India" highlights the role of finance in this transition and identifies a market size of $50 billion, around INR 3.7 lakh crore, for the financing of EVs in 2030 — about 80 per cent of the size of India's retail vehicle finance industry.

Vehicle scrappage policy for over 15-year-old govt, PSU vehicles from April 2022

The policy to scrap more than 15-year-old vehicles owned by government departments and PSUs is likely to be notified soon and will be implemented from April 1, 2022. The road transport, highways and MSMEs minister Mr Nitin Gadkari has approved the policy. The minister said that once the policy is approved, India will become an automobile hub and there will also be reduction in the prices of automobiles. Recycled material from old vehicles will help reduce the prices.

Homegrown EV brands rev up on green mobility, report 'double demand'

According to homegrown electric vehicle manufacturers, interest in the green cars is peaking and there is already a spurt in demand. Ather Energy, an electric two-wheeler manufacturer in Bengaluru, has expanded its presence from an initial 9 cities in 2020 to 24 cities at present. According to an independent study done by Council for Energy, Environment & Water and Centre for Energy Finance, by 2030 cumulative EV sales in all vehicle segments could cross over 100 million units, 200 times its current market size. 

Ola to build INR 2,400-crore EV manufacturing facility with Siemens

Ola has tied up with Siemens to build its upcoming electric vehicles (EV) manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The announcement comes after the mobility firm announced a INR 2,400-crore deal with the Tamil Nadu government last month to set up its first factory in the state. The manufacturing factory will generate almost 10,000 jobs and have an initial capacity of 2 million units a year.

Earth Energy to launch 6 new electric vehicles in 2021

Earth Energy EV, an electric vehicle startup, has announced its plans to launch six new commercial and non-commercial vehicles in the market this year. The brand promises 96% localisation for its upcoming products in the B2B and B2C segments. Earth Energy states that it will be producing EV batteries in India, and hence lower the prices on its EVs significantly since battery packs are the most expensive component in an electric-powered vehicle.
