The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has approved the country’s first ever indigenously developed AC and DC Combined Charging connector standard for light electric vehicles (LEVs). This standard, known as IS17017 (Part 2 / Sec 7): 2023, is not only a first for India but also the world’s first combined AC and DC charging connector standard for LEVs. This revolutionary innovation, engineered within India, has the potential to set a global benchmark for the LEV industry.
Lithium battery demand to reach 250-500 GWh in India by FY33

EV penetration in India is going to reach 50% by the financial year 2032-33. Provided with constant financial support from the government, battery demand of 250GW could be achieved with incentives of INR 1.8 tn over FY24-28 and an initial capex of USD 30-33 bn. This is stated in the report on ‘EV Batteries: Battle to control EV supply chain’ by Axis Capital.
Tata Motors to reskill 50% staff to transition to EV manufacturing by 2027

Tata Motors is implementing a multi-pronged strategy to upskill its workforce to be future-ready to transition to the EV landscape. Focusing on capability-building, Tata Motors said it has partnered with educational institutions, and developed curated training modules to address the developmental needs of all employees beginning with shopfloor technicians to line engineers, and plant management. The company said over 57,000 employees are at various stages of training.

Tamil Nadu has become one of the largest manufacturers of electric vehicles (EVs) sold this year, according to the data from Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ Vahan website. Out of the 1 million EVs sold in India this year, more than 400,000 EVs were manufactured in Tamil Nadu.

The production of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in India is expected to jump 11 times, reaching 9.7 million by 2027-28 due to factors such as urbanization, high fuel prices, reduced battery costs, concerns over pollution, and government incentives, according to a report. Recently, India crossed the threshold of registering 1 million EVs. The report titled “Charged for Success: India’s EV landscape” was released by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the knowledge partner, Avalon Consultancy.

Electric vehicle (EV) sales in India topped the 1 million mark in less than nine months in 2023, a milestone that took an entire year in 2022. According to data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ Vahan Dashboard, 1,037,011 EVs were registered with regional transport offices till September 19, accounting for 6.4 per cent of the total automobile sales in the country this year.
