Tata Motors, already the biggest in India's EV space, expects the share of the powertrain to be in double digits of total before FY23 winds down, with incremental buyers for the new Tiago EV leading the march. Tata Motors, the country's biggest automotive company by revenues, has sought to democratize the adoption of electric vehicles (EV) by introducing the Tiago at a price point sufficiently disruptive for mainstreaming the powertrain hitherto associated largely with luxury cars.

A report by BNP Paribas sees FY22 as the year of accelerated EV adoption in the two-wheeler segment, helped by incentives, wider availability, model launches, a rise in crude prices, and improved general awareness. The two-wheeler industry crossed the inflection for EV adoption in 2021, while it is at least three years away from the inflection point for the passenger vehicle segment, says the report.

On the recommendation of the Chandigarh Renewal Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST), a provision has been made to provide infrastructure incentives and patent fees to promising start-ups in the union territory's EV Policy. To promote research and innovation in electric mobility, the Chandigarh administration under its electric vehicle policy will be providing a slew of incentives to the first ten startups promising zero-emission mobility.

Two-wheeler maker Hero Electric will set up a mega electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant with an investment of Rs 1200 crore in Rajasthan. The proposed unit will be located in Salarpur industrial region in the Alwar district. The production is expected to start by the end of 2023.
Volvo Car India aims to sell 1,000 EVs in 2023

Volvo Cars is aiming to sell 900-1000 luxury electric vehicles in 2023, as demand for zero-emission vehicles increases in India. Globally, Volvo is aiming to be fully electric by 2030, and has plans to make EVs to account for at least half its sales volume by 2025. Malhotra, however, set a steeper target for its India business: 80% of sales from EVs by 2025.
Chandigarh to phase out fuel-based vehicles

Declaring itself a model electric vehicles (EV) city, the Chandigarh administration, while notifying the EV policy, stated that within two years from now, they will entirely stop the registrations of petrol-based two wheelers. The administration havs approved the policy to make UT a ‘Model EV City’ with highest zero emission vehicles (ZEV) among Indian cities, in five years. The policy comes into force with immediate effect.

Government of India and the World Bank are in talks to introduce a risk-sharing mechanism to compensate banks giving loans for electric vehicle purchases, an official said, as the country seeks to decarbonize the transport sector. The risk instrument will help banks hedge against loan defaults and cut the cost of financing EVs.
